| A spatial sampling was carried out for stock assessment of sea urchin P. lividus throughout the Basque coast. A sampling, over the year, was conducted to study the reproductive cycle. This work took place over 2013 and 2014. Reproduction occurs once in spring, between May and August 2014. Among factors affecting the release of eggs, salinity, temperature and hydrodynamics show a significant inter-annual variability in the Basque coast. Thus, the period set in 2014, may fluctuate between years. For the stock, the results showed that 11.85 (+/-0.32) million individuals of harvestable biomass for 724 tones (+/- 137). Stock is spread over the entire surveyed area density and biomass decrease rapidly with depth, individuals are mainly located between 0 and 5 m.... |

| In a context of several directives for transitional and coastal waters masses (Water Framework Directive, Marine Strategy Framework Directive and Bathing Water Directive), the good ecological status of water but also conservation of marine ecosystem should be quickly achieved. Le domaine marin côtier du Pays basque et du sud des Landes a fait l’objet de nombreux travaux thématiques sur le milieu physique, le milieu vivant, les ressources halieutiques et les activités qui s’y pratiquent. | Biodiversity conservation and response of benthic communities to pressures, related to global change and human activities, are a research priority. They also constitute a useful indicator to define the environmental status of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive as part of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD). The biogeographic features of the Aquitanian coast (in terms of rocky substrate communities) induce the interest to have a monitoring and research site. | Certaines masses d’eau s’avérant parfois déclassées par cet élément de qualité, le groupe de travail DCE « Eaux Littorales » a sollicité de la part des scientifiques une réflexion sur les raisons de ce mauvais classement et les éventuelles actions de restauration ou d'amélioration de connaissances relatives aux herbiers de ces zones. L’objectif de cette expertise, soutenue par l’Agence Française pour la Biodiversité, et réalisée en collaboration avec les acteurs concernés par l’indicateur « angiospermes » sur les façades Manche-Atlantique, est d’identifier les pressions potentiellement responsables de cette situation (Tableau 1) en prenant également en compte l’effet des différentes métriques de l’indicateur sur les résultats obtenus. |

| Cystoseira baccata, a biological quality element for the implementation of the Water Framework and Marine Strategy EU Directives, is a dominant species in the subtidal rocky bottoms of the Basque coast. | To determine good ecological status and conservation of the Sub-Marine area of the Bay of Biscay, the implementation of a new rocky intertidal habitats monitoring is needed. A protocol has been adapted from the Brittany protocol for the water body FRFC11 "Basque coast" for the two indicators "intertidal macroalgae" and "subtidal macroalgae" under the Water Framework Directive to qualify the ecological.
